5 signs your child might be struggling silently in a big classroom — and what you can do about it
Some kids don’t act out. They go quiet.
If any of these feel familiar, you’re not imagining it:
- They come home exhausted but can’t explain why the day was hard.
- Homework that used to take 20 minutes now takes hours — or they refuse it altogether.
- They say “I’m fine” but their stomachaches, headaches, or “I don’t feel well” days keep adding up.
- They’re falling behind and the teacher says they’re “just shy” or “need to try harder.”
- The spark is gone. They used to love learning. Now they just want it to be over.
You’re not a bad parent for noticing this. You’re a good one.
What you can do
- Trust what you see at home more than the report that says “average.”
- Talk to your child when they’re calm — not right after school.
- Ask the school for specifics, not just “they’re doing okay.”
- Look at options that let them learn at their pace, with more support and less overwhelm. Homeschooling (or a small learning pod) is one of those options for many families.
You don’t have to figure it all out today. You just have to take the next kind step for your child.
If this resonates, you’re welcome to message me. No pressure — just a parent who’s been there.
